Schmidt Peterson Motorsports (SPM) has re-signed long-time team sponsor KECO Coatings and added new sponsor HAIX, further strengthening the team which has already shown substantial growth over the off-season with the addition of new equity owner Ric Peterson and the return of Davey Hamilton.
KECO Coatings, which supplies coating processes to high performance industries, has sponsored SPM owner Sam Schmidt since he began his career as an IndyCar driver in 1997.
“KECO is an extremely important sponsor because their relationship with me goes all the way back to my first year of driving an IndyCar,” Sam Schmidt said. “They continually work to improve their product and what they deliver to us on the coatings level.”
KECO relies on feedback from SPM to research, develop and further improve its coatings process. KECO’s application of data gathered from SPM’s teams is used in pistons, exhaust systems, wheels, suspension components, gearbox housings and race equipment.
“Sam’s highly successful Firestone Indy Lights program, which has won six championships, has been particularly satisfying in terms of seeing KECO’s technology at work on Sam’s winning cars,” said Mike Klinge, president of KECO Coatings. “We have been happy to continue our relationship with Sam as he expanded from the Firestone Indy Lights Championship to competing in the IZOD IndyCar Series.”
HAIX, the world’s leading manufacturer of functional footwear for fire services, law enforcement and military task forces will venture into the IndyCar paddock for the first time with an associate sponsorship of SPM. SPM employees will wear shoes from HAIX’s Black Eagle product line.
“We were looking for an opportunity to showcase the Black Eagle product line’s durability and comfort under extreme conditions, and SPM’s crew is an environment where a high performance shoe is crucial,” said Mark Laigle, Northwest Regional Manager for Haix.
Based on advanced running technology, HAIX’s Black Eagle shoes are designed to absorb energy and stabilize the foot.
“In our sport safety is critical, and we believe HAIX provides a great product for everyone on our team, whether they work in the shop or over the wall,” Schmidt said. “HAIX is a brand new sponsor for our team, and we are happy to bring them to the IZOD IndyCar Series for the first time.”
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports will return to action on March 23 with Firestone Indy Lights and March 24 with the IZOD IndyCar Series at the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
