Alex Tagliani, driver of the No. 77 Bowers & Wilkins Dallara/Honda/Firestone car for Sam Schmidt Motorsports (SSM) qualified 16th during time trials for Sunday’s Indy 225 IZOD IndyCar Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon.

Tagliani’s two-lap cumulative time of 43.1976 seconds at an average speed of 170.843 mph around the 1.025-mile oval placed him on the outside of the seventh row in the 27-car field.

“We’re struggling a bit this weekend,” Tagliani said. “We bottomed out going into turn one and the car skipped a little bit, so I had to lift and that cost us some time.”

Dario Franchitti scored his 26th career IndyCar pole, his second of the season and his first at New Hampshire by clocking in at 43.1976 seconds at 170.843 mph.

Oriol Servia will start on the outside of row one as he timed in at 43.4549 seconds at 169.831 mph. Tony Kanaan was third (43.4890 seconds at 169.698 mph), while rookie James Hinchcliffe (43.5168 seconds at 169.590 mph) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (43.5219 seconds at 169.570 mph) rounded out the top-five.

The Indy 225 gets underway at 4 p.m. EDT on Sunday with live coverage provided by ABC beginning with a pre-race show at 3:30 p.m.
